The Youth

Youth Programs
The Gregg/Klice Community Center Advisory Committee is committed to creating opportunities
that uplift, inspire, and empower young people across Kansas City. Our youth programs blend
recreation, education, mentorship, and community support—ensuring every child who walks
through our doors feels valued, encouraged, and connected.

Sam Lacey Memorial Youth Basketball Tournament
Named in honor of NBA legend and Kansas City community advocate Sam Lacey, this annual
tournament brings together young athletes from across the city for a day of teamwork,
sportsmanship, and friendly competition.
The event promotes physical fitness, leadership, and
positive peer engagement while celebrating Lacey’s legacy of excellence on and off the court.

Gift of Sole
Each year, the Advisory Committee provides hundreds of free pairs of athletic shoes to
children ages 5–17. Gift of Sole ensures that every young person—regardless of financial
circumstances
has the confidence and comfort they need to participate in sports, recreation, and daily activities. Volunteers, partners, and donors come together to make this signature event a highlight of the year.
Youth Movie Nights

Our free community movie nights offer families a fun, safe, and welcoming place to gather.
Children enjoy age appropriate films, snacks, and fellowship—creating positive memories and strengthening community bonds.
Movie nights also provide parents with a trusted space for
familyfriendly entertainment close to home.
Holiday Toy Giveaways

In partnership with community organizations and generous donors, the Advisory Committee
distributes toys to children during the holiday season.
This initiative brings joy to families,
supports parents, and ensures that every child experiences the warmth and excitement of the
holidays.
In recent years, the Committee has proudly contributed 130 toys to support families in
need.
